Certification

A City Clerk certification is a designation obtained through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) after having achieved the required amount of education and community involvement. FACC is an IIMC-recognized avenue to achieve the education needed for the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) and Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designations. FACC obtains academy training support from the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government (IOG) at Florida State University. IOG staff works closely with the FACC Board, the FACC Professional Education Committee, and the IIMC to ensure that certification requirements are met and that City Clerks can earn their CMC and MMC designations.

Filing an application for admission to the IIMC is the first step toward the CMC or MMC designation. This form serves as your enrollment in the certification program and indicates to the IIMC that you are working toward a designation. This also allows IIMC to create a file for you in preparation for your future submissions and contact you if need be, regarding certification issues or changes.

Note per IIMC: In order to be recognized with a CMC or MMC designation, the clerk must be an active member of IIMC.

Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) Program

The Certified Municipal Clerk program is designed to enhance the job performance of the Municipal Clerk. To earn the CMC designation, a Municipal Clerk must attend extensive education programs. The CMC designation also requires pertinent experience in a municipality. The CMC program prepares the applicants to meet the challenges of the complex role of the Municipal Clerk by providing them with quality education in partnership with institutions of higher learning, as well as State/Provincial/National Associations. The CMC program has been assisting Clerks to excel since 1970 and is a prerequisite to the MMC designation.

Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) Program

The MMC program is the second and more advanced of the two professional designations granted by IIMC. The MMC program is an advanced continuing education program that prepares participants to perform complex municipal duties. All work to be reviewed for MMC credit must be at the intermediate to advanced level in nature and must be completed after the achievement of the CMC designation.
